Maria Santiago, LCSW

Maria is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience in this field. She has had many experiences both professionally and personally in the community and look forward to providing great mental health services now and in the future.

Her personal philosophy and take on therapy can be summed up with her favorite saying/mantra, “Working from strength and building from experience”. This take on therapy allows us to build a narrative of strength even from our most difficult experiences. Her hope is that as we (client and therapist) grow in the therapeutic process we build a relationship based on trust, cooperation and sound therapeutic care.

Maria's professional experiences have been in working with families, adults, adolescents, children and couples with a myriad of therapeutic needs. Clients’ needs range from situations of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, marital and family issues, trauma, sexual abuse and substance abuse (in all stages of life and recovery).

She has also "been there” in many ways. "I have battled depression after the birth of both my boys and sought advice from everyone before seeking help through my own therapeutic care. Those were tough days filled with anxiety about their care, my mood and my abilities as a mom. Therapy helped, and I learned about myself and had a new definition of “mom. As my children became older, I went through the process of obtaining an IEP for my youngest. Even for a social worker with a background in schools this was a difficult undertaking. I have guided parents in obtaining and caring for the needs of young children in these situations through advocacy, referral process and being another mom to talk to who understands".

Maria is also a trauma informed therapist who works with modalities such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Narrative as well as EMDR trained. She is bilingual, (Spanish/English) and bi cultural, working extensively with the Latino community. She has experience working in collaboration with local school systems as a parent guide to school based services. "My many years of experience as well as extensive trainings have allowed me to become not only an eclectic therapist but also a pragmatic practitioner who meets my clients where they are. I look forward to providing the best care possible to all my clients.
